In advance of International Quirkyalone Day, and the results of this year’s exclusive quirkyalone poll, here are some data regarding the increasing prevalence of never-marrieds. According to USA Today and the U.S. Census figures for 2003, one-third of men and one-quarter of women between the ages of 30 and 34 in the U.S. have never been married, nearly four times the rates in 1970. The trend continues: More and more young people are becoming choosier about their mates, delaying marriage, and focusing on education and careers before settling down and beginning families.
