Julia, the program manager at Hollyhock, a holistic retreat center 100 miles north of Vancouver, is a quirkyalone herself. She gets a thousand applications for couples workshops a year. She wanted to invite a workshop leader who would validate the single life, and after reading about quirkyalone in Utne, she contacted me. Julia and I had been in communication designing the agenda for Quirkyalone Camp since last summer. But since this was the first time we were offering Quirkyalone Camp, we had no idea who to expect.
