Hey, I don’t normally blog about events after they happen but since last night’s reading from the Single State of the Union anthology will recur tonight at Books, Inc. in the Marina I thought I would let you know how fun last night’s was. . . you should come tonight.

We had a great little gang of thirtysomething single mothers and their adorable daughters in the audience there to support Rachel Sarah, author of Single Mom Seeking. Rachel read a piece about the astonishingly mean response a column she wrote for the Washington Post online elicited from male readers. The piece was about balancing single motherhood with dating and the men all accused her of being obsessed with finding a man rather than caring for her child. Weird, I thought they would accuse her of being too independent.

Oddly enough, there was even a guy in the audience who also intersected with the horrific reality dating show How to Get the Guy that I wrote about for this anthology. I merely auditioned, he was actually on the show! He told me after the reading how the producers found him on a casting website and directed him to be the “bad date” at the first speed dating event. He was told to pick the woman he would vibe with the least and say something atrocious to her. He was paired with the massage therapist and told her “So, you must get a lot of fat guys who are looking for a happy ending?” They used his quote in the show and the Chronicle quoted it. He now wonders when he meets single women if they subliminally remember this bit of faux-acting. Yikes! Reality TV is soooo real.

Tonight should be equally fun, so come find us at 7:30 in the Marina at Books, Inc. Address below.
